JOHN H. REITEROWSKI

Legal Experience

John has been litigation counsel for over a decade. He has experience before private arbitrators, the Ontario Courts, the British Columbia Courts, the Federal Courts, federal and provincial agencies, and the Supreme Court of Canada.


John has helped clients ranging in size from individuals to international corporations. Now he prides himself on giving timely and efficient service to small and medium businesses and professionals of all stripes.

Military Service

Prior to becoming a lawyer, John served in the Canadian Armed Forces, Army Reserve as a member of the Queens York Rangers, attaining the rank of Master Corporal. John took the lessons he learned in the military and applied them to his legal practice. Discipline, drive, and determination form a part of every case he takes on.

Community Service

John is currently a member of Pro Bono Ontario working for the Consumer Defence Clinic. In the past, he has volunteered for various charitable organizations including the Good Shepherd Refuge, Reach for the Rainbow, Lawyers Feed the Hungry and OBA/OJEN Mock Trial Competition, and the Pro Bono Ontario Hotline.

Outside the Office

John is reading, engaging in his favorite sports (hockey, biking, running, snowboarding or cross country skiing), learning new languages or a new instrument, or reading the next entry is his favorite science fiction series. When time allows, he is travelling the world with his wife.

Dussault v. Tong, CV-17-00571788-0000, pending decision after a 12-day in person trial, represented buyers suing sellers pursuant to residential real estate purchase with latent defects (caveat emptor).

2689686 Ontario Inc. v Lloyd’s Underwriters, 2025 ONCA 801 (CanLII): appeal of summary judgement decision finding there was no insurance coverage for a small business on a commercial construction policy.

Salehe v. The King, 2025 TCC 54 (CanLII): represented taxpayer in an appeal regarding disallowance of deduction of legal expenses on a rental property.

Puri Professional Corporation v. Lloyd’s Underwriters, 2024 ONSC 6997 (CanLII): represented accountant on a summary judgment motion seeking coverage under his E&O policy in the face of a lawsuit for professional negligence.

2689686 Ontario Inc. v Lloyd’s Underwriters, 2024 ONSC 3980 (CanLII): represented a small business in an insurance coverage dispute (commercial construction policy ) at summary judgment motion.

Window Force Inc. v 2304949 Ontario Inc. et al., 2024 ONSC 4095 (CanLII): represented a small business on summary judgment motion in a breach of contract matter.

Lerner et al v. Sobitnik, Derry Millar (decided March 4, 2024): represented a minority shareholder client at private arbitration to resolve a shareholder dispute/buyout.

Adams v Body Plus, 2024 ONSC 315 (CanLII): represented a major corporation in two motions; responding to a motion for a further and better affidavit of documents and responding to a motion to strike an affidavit filed on the motion.

Hayes v Toronto Poly Clinic, 2023 HRTO 1145 (CanLII): represented medical clinic at Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, in upholding a dismissal of a claim that lacked jurisdiction on reconsideration.

Haye v Toronto Poly Clinic, 2023 HRTO 867 (CanLII): represented medical clinic at Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, in dismissing a claim that lacked jurisdiction.

MP v JB, 2022 CanLII 16878 (ON HPARB): represented respondent at the Health Professions Appeal Review Board, in upholding a decision of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.

Hellenic Congress of Quebec v. Canadian Hellenic Congress, 2020 ONSC 2224 (CanLII): represented a not-for-profit corporation in a dispute regarding its by-laws, an election and membership fees.

Houghton v. Epcor Collingwood Distribution Corporation, 2019 ONSC 5568 (CanLII): represented a former CEO of a public utility company seeking indemnity for legal fees incurred for participation in a Judicial Inquiry (Town of Collingwood).

Nitisinone Capsules, 2019 CanLII 110857 (CA CITT): represented domestic producer in anti-dumping matter regarding nitisinone capsules at the Canadian International Trade Tribunal.

Certain Steel Goods, 2019 CanLII 110872 (CA CITT): represented Korean steel company in the Safeguard Inquiry into the Importation of Certain Steel Goods at the Canadian International Trade Tribunal.

Sun Wave Forest Products Ltd. v. Xu, [2018] S.C.C.A. No. 120: drafted the application for leave to appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada on the issue of administrative dismissal for lack of prosecution.

Nitisinone Capsules, 2018 CanLII 146739 (CA CITT): represented domestic producer in anti-dumping matter regarding nitisinone capsules at the Canadian International Trade Tribunal.

Corrosion-Resistant Steel Sheet, COR 2018 IN: represented Korean steel company in the anti-dumping investigation regarding corrosion-resistant steel sheet.

Nu Stream Realty Inc. v 1116191 B.C. Ltd., 2018 BCSC 911: represented a real estate company in an application to defeat a certificate of pending litigation.

The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company v. RBC Insurance Company of Canada et al, Shari Novick, released July 20, 2017: represented an automobile insurer in an accident benefits priority dispute.

Liguori Investments Inc. v Gershwin Gabriel, 2016 CanLII 695 (ON SC): represented a car dealership and insurer in a 2-day in person trial seeking damages from a former employee and his alleged conspirator in a used car sales fraud scheme.
